Barnyard Fun, Rain or Shine: There Are No Rain Delays at This Tennessee Indoor Playground

When you think of a playground, you usually think of sunscreen and shade structures. But at Carolina Recreation & Design, we believe play shouldn’t be limited by the weather. In 2022, we had the incredible opportunity to head to Livingston, TN, to create a one-of-a-kind indoor play area for Life Church.

Check out the video below to see the project in action and hear from our own Jeremiah Partin about how we brought this farm-themed vision to life!

A Farm-Fresh Design in Livingston, TN

The goal for Life Church was clear: to create a safe, imaginative space where kids can be active year-round. We leaned into a farm theme to give the space a friendly, local feel that resonates with the community.

The Details that Matter:

  • Dual-Age Zones: We installed specialized equipment for two distinct groupsโ€”ages 2โ€“5 for the little explorers and 5โ€“12 for the big kids who want to climb and slide.
  • Custom Surfacing: Our Poured-In-Place (PIP) rubber surfacing isn’t just about safety; itโ€™s about storytelling. We used a custom mix of blue, green, and tan to mimic a winding stream flowing through a grassy landscape.
  • Built to Last: Since this is an indoor installation, the vibrant colors won’t fade from UV exposure, and the equipment stays in pristine condition regardless of the Tennessee humidity.

Benefits of an Indoor Play Space

Adding an indoor playground isn’t just a “perk,” itโ€™s a game-changer for churches and community centers. Here are the top three benefits:

1. 365 Days of Activity

From the hottest summer afternoons to the rainiest spring mornings, an indoor playground ensures that the “fun” never has to be rescheduled. It provides a reliable outlet for kids to burn off energy in a controlled, climate-controlled environment.

2. A “Safe Haven” for Parents

Parents love indoor play because itโ€™s easy to supervise. At Life Church, parents can connect with one another while knowing their children are playing on high-quality, impact-absorbing surfacing that meets the highest safety standards.

3. Unique Community Branding

A custom-themed playground like this becomes a landmark. “The church with the farm playground” is a powerful way to make your organization stand out and feel welcoming to young families in the neighborhood.
