Ballou Park Splash Pad Makes a Big Splash in Danville, VA
Carolina Recreation & Design, in collaboration with Watersplash, is proud to have brought the Ballou Park Splash Pad to life for the City of Danville, Virginia. Officially opened on May 23, 2025, this state-of-the-art water play area is the city’s third and largest free public splash pad, transforming Ballou Park into a go-to destination for cooling off during hot summer days. Located at 760 West Main Street, the splash pad is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is activated by the simple push of a button—making it easy and accessible for visitors of all ages.
Designed for Maximum Fun and Safety
The Ballou Park Splash Pad was built with community enjoyment and longevity in mind, featuring the largest splash pad in Danville with capacity for up to 80 users at a time, twice the size of the city’s other splash pads at Doyle Thomas Park and Third Avenue. Interactive water play elements include water guns, sprinkler arches, and a giant dumping bucket for thrilling splashes. An eco-friendly recirculating system keeps water flowing while minimizing waste. The custom TuffCoat surfacing offers a durable, non-slip foundation for safety in wet conditions, while pre-engineered ICON Shelter System Kits provide shaded seating, picnic tables, and nearby restrooms for visitor comfort.
Building Community, One Splash at a Time
Beyond being a fun summer attraction, the Ballou Park Splash Pad serves as a hub for active play, social interaction, and community connection. As a free public amenity managed by Danville Parks and Recreation, it’s an inclusive space where children of all abilities can play together. The splash pad quickly made a positive impact—its first visitors included 80 students from Schoolfield Elementary School, whose reviews ranged from “10 out of 10” to “like a vacation.” Bill Sgrinia, Director of Danville Parks and Recreation, shared: “It’s a good day, this is a really nice facility. We’re really happy to have this one in our park system. It reminds us why we manage these parks and why we build these facilities. We hope that everyone enjoys this throughout the summer.”
