Play Without Barriers: A Pre-School Playground Transformation
At the heart of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, a vital community hub just got a major upgrade. Fuquay-Varina Methodist Church is home to the Seeds of Faith preschool and dozens of youth programs, but their aging playground was no longer serving the needs of every child.
When the church leadership approached us, they had a clear mission: Inclusion. They needed a modern space where every studentโregardless of mobility challengesโcould play side-by-side with their peers.
A Visionary Partnership
This wasn’t just a standard installation. We worked closely with the Senior Pastor, the Preschool Director, and the Executive Director of Operations to ensure the design met the churchโs high standards for safety and accessibility.
“This project was about more than just replacing old slides; it was about ensuring no child is left on the sidelines,” says Caleb Mangum. “By focusing on inclusive elements and high-performance surfacing, weโve created a space where the Seeds of Faith students & church members can explore, learn, and grow in an environment built specifically for them.”
Modern Upgrades for Diverse Needs
To bring this vision to life, we combined top-tier equipment with smart site planning. Here is how we transformed the rear play area:
- Inclusive Play Structures: Featuring Henderson Playground Equipment, we selected pieces that offer sensory play and accessible entry points so children with mobility aids are part of the action.
- Sun Protection: In North Carolina, the heat is a factor. We integrated USA Shade Structures to keep the equipment cool and protect young skin from UV rays.
- Dual-Surface Technology: We utilized a mix of upgraded rubber and turf play surfacing. This doesn’t just look great; it creates a smooth, level transition for wheelchairs and walkers, which is a massive upgrade from traditional mulch or gravel.
- Youth Athletics: With Bison Athletic Equipment on-site, the church can now offer more robust physical activity options for its older youth participants.
The “Seeds of Faith” Legacy
A playground at a church is more than just a place to burn off energy; it is a tool for ministry and community building. By investing in turnkey solutions that include site amenities (like benches and bins) and professional-grade engineering, Fuquay-Varina Methodist Church has ensured this space will serve the next generation of “Seeds of Faith” students for decades.
We were honored to be part of this transformation and are thrilled to see the smiles on the kids’ faces as they explore their new, barrier-free world.
Why Focus on Inclusivity?
Adding inclusive elements to your park or preschool isn’t just about compliance; it’s about community value.
- Increases Enrollment: Parents of children with special needs specifically look for schools and churches with accessible facilities.
- Safety First: Modern rubber and turf surfaces significantly reduce trip hazards compared to aging wood chips.
- Longevity: High-quality materials, such as those from Henderson and Bison, are designed to withstand heavy daily use in large preschool programs.
