A Warm, Open-Air Band Shelter Built for Performance
For this project, our team utilized the ‘Band Shell 3’ designed specifically for student performances and outdoor events. This standard kit from Cedar Forest Products delivered a structure that’s both durable and performance-ready. The strength of the laminated wood beams allows for large open spans, maximizing sightlines, natural airflow, and a flexible footprint for a variety of campus uses.
Visually, this band shell makes an immediate statement. The shelter features gothic arched curved timber beams that sweep upward into a high gabled roofline, creating a natural “acoustic shell” feel while giving performers a timeless architectural backdrop. The exposed framing and tongue-and-groove wood roof decking add warmth and character overhead, while black steel connection plates and hardware provide crisp contrast and reinforce the structure’s craftsmanship.
The shelter sits on a large concrete slab stage area, with decorative brick column wraps that elevate and anchor the timber columns—an elegant blend of natural wood, structural steel, and classic masonry that fits beautifully into a school setting.
